Society for Conservation Biology 4th Oceania Congress
The Society for Conservation Biology (SCB) Oceania section is proud to team up with the University of Queensland Centre for Biodiversity and Conservation Science (CBCS) to host the 4th Oceania Congress for Conservation Biology (OCCB) to be held on July 6-8, 2016 in Brisbane, Australia.
The meeting will bring together the community of conservation professionals to address conservation challenges and present new findings, initiatives, methods, tools and opportunities in conservation science and practice. Scientists, students, managers, decision-makers, writers, and other conservation professionals are invited to participate in this event.
UPDATE: The final conference report can be downloaded here.
Please note that Early Bird registration closes on April 15th! All travel scholarships have now been awarded. If you applied for a travel grant, you will have received an e-mail informing you of the outcome. Please check your junk mail if you haven't seen one.
The SCBO 2016 scientific committee is thrilled to announce that we have awarded a total of AUD $70,000 in travel scholarships to allow students, scientists and practitioners to attend our conference. Whilst the number of travel grant applicants exceeded our ability to fund everyone who requested support, we were able to provide 27 full scholarships (flights, accommodation, and registration fees) and 63 partial scholarships. Our travel award recipients come from 19 different countries, so we’re looking forward to a diverse conference!
We are incredibly grateful to the Thomas Foundation, Queensland University of Technology, and Tourism and Events Queensland for their funding support.
If you are interested in attending any of our lunchtime workshops, or the student lunch with plenary speakers, please register your interest here. These workshops and events will be first come, first served!
Update, February 2016:
Notification of abstract acceptance and presentation format (for those who opted for random allocation) has been sent via e-mail. If you have not received notification, please check your junk e-mail box, and if it's still missing, get in touch. The first round of travel scholarships has also been awarded - congratulations to the successful applicants! We received well over one hundred applications for travel awards, which greatly exceeded our ability to fund everyone who requested support. As a result, we have approached donors for additional funding to support further grants. We hope to announce further travel awards within the next few weeks.
Update, January 2016:
After receiving many requests for an extension, abstract submission has been extended to Friday 22nd January, so there's still time to submit! More here.
Update, December 2015:
The program for SCBO 2016 is coming together. We have a great line up of confirmed workshops, plenary speakers, symposia and speed symposia. Check out the program here, there’s something there for everyone.
Remember to submit your abstract by January 13 and remember to apply for student and travel awards at the same time. We’ve also announced registration fees and will be opening registration once we announce abstract acceptances in February 2016.
We look forward to seeing you in Brisbane in July 2016!
